Individual therapy

Children and young adults often have powerful emotions that they can struggle to understand and work through. These feelings often manifest themselves in challenging behaviour which can cause distress in a child's school or home life. In turn parents can struggle to cope with these difficult behaviours.

I offer therapy sessions both short-term and long-term to help children through a wide range of personal problems. I aim to help the child feel more comfortable with themselves and the world in which they live.

It’s an amazing time and you can express your feelings. It has made me feel much more confident

Why should I consider psychotherapeutic support ?

  • If there is a trauma within the family unit.

  • Dealing with divorce, bereavement or any major family illness.

  • Sudden behavioural changes.

  • Persistent difficulty in regulating their emotions.

  • Excessive anxiety or tearfulness on separation.

  • Frequent complaining of unwellness with no underlying cause.

  • Concerns around self harming or self destructive behaviour.

  • If grades have slipped or challenging behaviour is causing trouble in school, without any obvious reason.

  • Foster and looked after  children struggling to form attachments in the new family.

I used to have so many worries but then I came to see you. I’m not sure what happened. They just went ‘POOF’ and they all disappeared! It’s like magic or something!

My approach is uniquely built around a child/young person's age and developmental stage.

Young children sometimes find it difficult to communicate their feelings into words, so instead, I use the arts and imaginative play to help them express themselves. Older children may find it easier just to talk about their problems. I work in a client led manner, adapting each session to the wants and needs of the child in a way that they are the most comfortable with.

Through building the relationship between myself and the Child or Young Person, the hope is that they will begin to express what is troubling them through play. Gradually, powerful feelings can be put into words rather than behaviours.

This causes them to feel less pre-occupied, and happy within themselves which in turn allows them to fulfill their potential at school, and maintaining a happier life at home.
